It is basketball season

The Dawgs got off to a winning start on both basketball fronts as the men defeated South Carolina-Upstate 72-48, lead by a smothering defense (28 turnovers, with 20 steals).  The men play in the Preseason NIT at West Lafayette on Monday night, a game I am hoping making it to.

The ladies took care of business against Alabama State 85-35.  The 25th ranked Lady Dawgs showed improvement from last season by putting an opponent away, something they struggled with last year.  Coach Landers:

“The chemistry of this basketball team is very good. Not only do they enjoy playing together, but they enjoy playing hard. We’re not to the point of playing hard that we are going to get to, but they enjoy the point we are at. Whereas a year or two ago, they would not have been comfortable and not wanted a whole lot to do with it.”

I love that quote.  Last year, the Lady Dawgs looked soft late, allowing teams to come back or being unable to finish.  This year looks to be a very different team.  Awesome.

Go Dawgs!

BBQ, Ball and Bets

There's nothing like a sunny fall afternoon, pork BBQ (with mustard sauce, of course!), a pregame tailgate, and...betting online. You heard me right. With a laptop and an internet connection you can check the odds of any game from the 50 yard line. Now that's convenience and will make your tailgate all the more interesting when some dude mentions just how much of a good bet a certain game is.
