As the two most worthy teams in the SEC prepare to meet in Atlanta, the two most lucky in the ACC in Tampa, the best right now (in one division) and the only decent one (in another division) in the Big 12 in Kansas City, now is the time to look at the best reason I can think of to watch tomorrow’s games: Today is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition.
Let’s celebrate in a way that we (almost) all can appreciate. By exercising our constitutional rights. Be sure not to forget about the second part of the 21st ammendment, though. Then you would just be an old-school fan of racin,’ which isn’t all bad, but we are in the three week period when NASCAR isn’t running.
My quick preditions for this week’s games of interest:
SECCG: Florida over Alabama 28-24. Bama’s D matches up well with Florida. John Parker Wilson will shine, but not quite enough. Tim Tebow cries because, dadgumit, he is just so happy. Urban Meyer’s post game comments will move him ahead of Saban for dillhole of the year by a nose.
Big 12 Championship: Oklahoma over Missouri 51-38. The Big 12 championship game will show yet again that defense is so 1950’s in the Big 12. Dan Wetzel has a stroke because he was ‘this’ close to convincing Jim Delaney to have a playoff.
Acc championship: Virginia Tech over Boston College 17-14. If 27,000 ACC fans fall down in Raymond James Stadium, does anyone care? Virginia Tech’s D rattles BC’s freshman starter and gets an invite to the Orange Bowl to play Cincy.
Big 10 championship: Championship? We don’t need no stinking championship!
USC vs. UCLA: The Trojans 41-6. Sorry, no shutout for the Men of Troy in what will be a home game, what with the Bruins turning another 25K tickets over to Southern Cal for the game.
Army vs. Navy: Navy 31-24. I’m going with Navy’s running attack to be just better enough than Army’s for the win and the Commander in Chief trophy.
Finally, tomorrow is Fry-a-thon day. Despite snow and very cold temps, I am frying the crap out of stuff. Probably catfish, wings, sweet potatoes, onions and anything else that I can figure out how to batter. Oh, yeah and exercising my 21st Amendment rights.
