I wonder who he is trying to convince?

Yesterday, Gene Chizik was introduced as the 26th head football coach in Auburn history.  I doubt there has ever been one met with as much trepidation as this one.

The one word that keeps coming up is confidence.  Gene Chizik mentioned he is confident that Jay Jacobs made the right hire, that Auburn had the right man, confident that he was going to win, confident that he had Iowa State pointed in the right direction.  Chizik actually looked at Jacobs and said “you have the right man for the job.”

Now, I am not a psychologist, but this sounds an awful lot like he is trying to convince more than the Auburn nation.  His former employer immediately issued statements that aren’t the most flattering.  His former players aren’t happy.  His possible future players are even bailing on him.

Look, failure can do things to a man.  It can make him desperate.  It can make him feel insecure.  It can make him especially insecure if his boss’ career is tied specifically to his success.  I can only surmise that Jay Jacobs and Gene Chizik are on the very shortest of leashes with the president and board right now.   In the end, he didn’t couldn’t win the press conference.  Now, at least all that is left is winning the games.  Let’s see if the confidence can be translated into action.  Auburn nation hopes he can.

I heard he is trying to convince Patrick Nix to come on as OC. I am really hoping for this one. Patrick Nix has got to be one of the worst playcallers in college football.

I can’t see that it’d be an improvement to the overall coaching ability level on The Plains, that’s for sure.

I am just saying, as a Georgia fan, I am hoping that the train wreck that is Auburn and Gene Chizik continue to be a train wreck and hire Patrick Nix, who as an offensive coordinator is a train wreck himself. TRAIN WRECK or trainwreck. Either way, it describes Auburn .

BBQ, Ball and Bets

There's nothing like a sunny fall afternoon, pork BBQ (with mustard sauce, of course!), a pregame tailgate, and...betting online. You heard me right. With a laptop and an internet connection you can check the odds of any game from the 50 yard line. Now that's convenience and will make your tailgate all the more interesting when some dude mentions just how much of a good bet a certain game is.
