Ah, the weekend

  • “Could I have made a mistake? Sure.” With that, Jim Calhoun’s legacy at UConn is in doubt.
  • Joe Billy, we hardly knew ye.  Look for UK to make a run at Travis Ford, a great connection to the glory years for the ‘Cats.  Urban Meyer will point and stare over the obvious dis of Bill Donovan.
  • When Mark Bradley is on your side….Well, the Atlanta Sports Council can kiss the chance of (the name that shall not be mentioned) being played in the Dome good bye.
  • Speaking of, why do writers continually complain about football press boxes.  THE FOOD IS FREE.  YOU HAVE SHELTERED SEATS, WITH PEOPLE GIVING YOU STATS. YOU GET YOUR OWN GATE.  YOU MIGHT GET TO PEE NEXT TO GARY DANIELSON. Jeeesh.
  • Gotta wonder if Blair Walsh is thinking what this is about.
  • The Senator is a lawyer.
  • The Brit is still wondering if Bernie it referencing lazy sausages with his Monday Meatloaf.
  • PWD thinks Damon is exactly where he wants to be in the basketball search.
  • Tim Tucker has nothing on something.
  • Football.com has a great piece on Dawg signee Montez Robinson (h/t David Hale).  This kid has his crap together and might be the most impressive kid in the bunch.
  • Illinois recruit Tommie Hawkins was shot in the leg the other morning sitting in his car. At 4am.  I smell Fulmer Cup Points waiting to be accrued.

Congrats to Anthony Grant on getting the Alabama job….I kind of hope he whips Georgia’s ass the first time he plays them; I can’t believe UGA so easily dismissed the idea of hiring him.

Count me among those who don’t want to see Tubby return to Athens. Then again, am I being too prideful here?…How cool would it be to get Pitino? If he has happy feet right now, there’s absolutely no reason not to go after him. You can’t use the excuses that UGA doesn’t have the $$$, that Pitino doesn’t know the SEC, or that he doesn’t have any game left.

Is this the right time to go ahead and make Andy Landers the men’s coach?

If recent sports history has shown us anything, it’s that Billy Donovan is still very much in the picture at UK, despite what he, UF, ESPN sources, or Manny, Moe and Jack say.

If UK is considering bringing Pitino back, that’s all the more reason for UGA to go after him.

At some point, UK hoops will have to go the route of Alabama football and realize you can’t always find someone with ties to the family every time the gig comes open.

Two things about the Grant thing. I firmly believe he was waiting to see what happens with the the UK job and how Billy Donovan reacts to that. Grant accepting the Bama job tells me all I need to know about Donovan’s commitment to UF.
The second thing is that I fully trust Damon. This is his signature hire, possibly of his entire tenure as AD. I don’t think for a second we are going after Tubby. I don’t think for a second we are going after anyone not still in the tourney. The easy money says it is Anderson, but if it is Pitino, wow! That’d be pretty solid.
UK hires Ford. I think it is that simple for them. Someone who will be a UK homer and eat 1000 rubber chicken dinners in places like Paducah and Cumberland Gap and Bardstown. Someone who will talk basketball with the CatPaw posters and who thinks that football thing is cute, but just a placeholder for b-ball to start.

Yeh, Mizzou’s getting nervous about Evans phat checkbook – http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4023021

I think UK may feel out some bigger fish (Izzo ??) before they end up with Ford. That kid will never have to pay for a meal again.

I can’t imagine Pitino’s going anywhere. Apparently he’s bought a hose in Tucson which has everyone there going crazy, but I don’t see that one either. The one elite guy I see Georgia getting is Anderson. There’s already talk of Mizzou going to boosters trying to “round up money” for a pay raise. The fact that they don’t already have that budgeted, or can’t simply just get it done right away says bad things for their chances to keep him.

Bama made a great hire with Grant IMO. He certainly has the pedigree, and unlike some of the Duke assistants has actually won before getting a big job.

Yeah. I think Pitino’s a huge reach. Just saying if he wants a project again, especially if he wins another NC, this might be it. Zona isn’t so much a project, more a small rebuild.

Another guy I’d like to see UGA go after is Wright. He turned UK down last time and he is a great coach. This will all boil down to money. No Big East coach is leaving for the SEC cache.

So Pitino’s house in Tucson is next door to Laettner’s?

BBQ, Ball and Bets

There's nothing like a sunny fall afternoon, pork BBQ (with mustard sauce, of course!), a pregame tailgate, and...betting online. You heard me right. With a laptop and an internet connection you can check the odds of any game from the 50 yard line. Now that's convenience and will make your tailgate all the more interesting when some dude mentions just how much of a good bet a certain game is.
