Fox introduced at next men's basketball coach (from the AJC).

Fox introduced as next men's basketball coach (from the AJC).

He is already looking to familiarize himself with the bball scene in Georgia, saying

Fox said he won’t bring all of his assistants with him from Nevada, and that he will try to hire assistant coaches who are familiar with the area.

Hopefully that familiarity will include the Atlanta AAU circuit that Felton seemed unaware of.

The guy has a sense of humor, too.  When asked about facing Calipari and Donovan:

I think Billy’s a better player than me, but John, with his bad hip, I think I would take him.

It doesn’t rise to the level of Hal Mumme’s famous quote upon arriving at UK about waiting to get off the plane to start throwing the ball, but it is pretty good coming from a guy that just stepped into a program that badly needs a breath of fresh anything.

Go Dawgs and good luck Coach Fox.

A lot of good players (Snyder, Fazekas, Kemp, Sessions, Babbitt) have come through the Nevada program during his tenure and the end of the Trent Johnson regime there. As Andy Katz mentioned, that program turned into a really good job that people will jump on. So clearly he can coach and run a program.

Clearly the one thing he’ll need to do is recruit the southeast, and it sounds like plans are in motion to do that.

The one thing I like about it is he recognizes what he needs to do to succeed. There is another blog post about moving the program from one that someone would turn down nearly a half million dollars a year more than they renegotiated their contract for to one that someone would move to for the same money. I think he is the guy that can do that and (hopefully) more.

BBQ, Ball and Bets

There's nothing like a sunny fall afternoon, pork BBQ (with mustard sauce, of course!), a pregame tailgate, and...betting online. You heard me right. With a laptop and an internet connection you can check the odds of any game from the 50 yard line. Now that's convenience and will make your tailgate all the more interesting when some dude mentions just how much of a good bet a certain game is.
